My passport expired and I can’t travel, can I cancel my flight?

Unfortunately this is usually treated as a passenger-caused issue, but you still have options:

• Cancel before departure. Don’t no-show, because it can cancel your return flight too.
• Ask about a date change. If you can renew in time, a change may cost less than losing the ticket.
• Ask for a credit or taxes and fees back. Non-refundable fares often still return unused taxes and fees.
• Check insurance and card benefits. Passport problems are often excluded, but it is worth asking.
